We converted a 4 week conventional elective course: Radiology Clerkship into a hybrid course utilizing an online learning management system (LMS): the Pearson Learning Studio eCollege. Overall, students had positive feedback for the course, especially regarding its flexibility and ability for self-directed learning. Nonetheless, with the hybrid course in its infancy, there was also feedback for ways to improve organization, course structure, and lecture content to better suit online learning. We also conducted a national survey among participants of AMSER (Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology) to see how other programs have been incorporating online technology into their curriculum. 20% of participants responded from a variety of academic and community based programs, with the majority reporting they do not have online learning platforms in place. Largest perceived benefits include the number of students the department would be able to accommodate and less requirements of faculty time on a daily basis, while barriers included difficulty in evaluating student performance and the initial time invested required.
